About the imagery

With an interest in surface, shape and layer, Clare makes use of a variety of materials in her work. Drawing, printmaking, painting and simple making processes are combined to create abstract and atmospheric imagery. Irregular shaped objects and surfaces are formed using paper, fabric, plastic and concrete.

Clare photographs these objects and surfaces using a range of light sources and filters, exploring shadow, reflection and edge. The photographs are developed into distinct scarf designs for each new C F McEwan collection.
